George Laughlin joins the Lewis-Clark State College volleyball coaching staff after serving as the assistant varsity and head coach of the freshman at Powell High School in Powell, WY. Laughlin has also held coaching stints in other sports such as wrestling and baseball. During his first season as an assistant wrestling coach in 2015, Laughlin helped Rocky Mountain High School to a fourth-place finish at the state wrestling tournament, their first team placement in over 10 years. The following season the Griz finished a highest-ever second. George also served as assistant coach for the American Legion Baseball team, the Powell Pioneers in 2016. In 2017, Laughlin was promoted to head coach for one season before making the move to LCSC.
The Warrior Head Volleyball Coach, Shaun Pohlman is thrilled with Laughlin joining the Warriors. “George has shown me over the past two years how devoted he is in developing strong, young adults - that is a huge priority for us,” states Pohlman, “He spent hours upon hours in my gym on his own time helping me train my players in the off-season, taking notes, asking the right questions, and he helped me run camps and leagues.”
Laughlin is a 2008 graduate of the University of Wyoming in Architectural Engineering and for the past four years, Laughlin worked with middle school students as a Special Education Para-Professional. In addition to his background in education, George has also been involved with coaching multiple sports at various levels. “Obviously, George’s background demonstrates how he values the fundamental development of people first,” Pohlman adds “I’ve watched how this carries over into how he approaches coaching, and I share those principles. He knows our system and his values match what I want to be about – asking him to assist is a no-brainer.”
Laughlin shares that sentiment, “While I was really happy where I was, the opportunity to work with Coach Pohlman in rebuilding the foundation of a great program was a chance I couldn’t pass up,” said Laughlin of his move to Lewis-Clark State College.
